My name is Matthew Nichol of Brisbane Australia, age 17. If everything goes to plan I will be serving on the Logos Hope from January 2013.

Why ships? I have been familiar with GBA Ships and the Logos Hope for quite a long time. I visited the Doulos when it visited Brisbane in 2008. What I'd heard about the ships and the work they do inspired me to investigate further, possibly as something that I could get involved with, eventually.
Taking a gap year to serve was something I had kept as an option but not something I really took seriously. In April 2012 a friend from GBA Ships was visiting Brisbane so I tagged along to a Bible Study where he was giving a presentation about what the ships were currently doing.
What I heard and saw reignited my interest in this opportunity. I was strongly encouraged to take this further. After several months of prayer and investigation I applied to join the Logos Hope.
In July I went to Pre Field Training at the office in Melbourne.

It was a great week and I learned heaps. The staff are all great.
On the 18th of September 2012 I was accepted by the ship so it's full steam ahead in preparation to leave in January.
