OMNIvision

Previously I mentioned that during our annual dry dock I had the wonderful opportunity to fly to England and work with OMNIvision for a month.

OMNIvision are a Christian group producing video content and running events. In many ways they are similar to our onboard communications team. OMNIvision produce videos and other content. They also run AV for some events. One of these is the video broadcast system at TeenStreet Europe.

The main reason for me to go was to expand my knowledge, especially in the areas of video and lighting technology. This was the first time since joining the ship that I had again a very steep learning curve. It was an experience I enjoyed. Unfortunately I didn't learn as much in the area of lighting as I would have liked but I did learn a lot about video broadcast systems.

While there I was also able to get to know the OMNIvision and ICT teams. ICT stands for International Coordinating Team. Part of their office is in Carlisle but it is gradually moving to Singapore as it's a more central base.

On set for an episode of the 'mad scientist.'

I stayed in an English terraced house with two other guys. One is with OMNIvision and the other with a local church. I mostly looked after myself. I did my own cooking and cleaning but I was given a lift to the office most days.

On the ship we get our clothes washed once a week in the laundry and our food is cooked en masse by the galley team. I surprised myself by really enjoying cooking my own food! I made solid British meals and it was such a nice break from the ship food.

I didn't have any set aside ministry day like we do on board but I did go to a different church each Sunday. I didn't do any official presentations but I was able to talk with many people about the ship.

Now I'm back on board and have been for a couple of weeks. This time in England was also a great chance to rest more than I ever am able to on board. I have a renewed vigour for ministry and work on the Logos Hope.
