Anchor House Challenge Team

This is Anchor House, a building run by Boys Brigade Hong Kong.

Boys Brigade is a uniformed movement for youth worldwide. Unlike many other youth organizations, Boys Brigade is run with Christ at its centre.

Our team spent a month scraping and sanding the walls as well as gardening and other bits and pieces around the house. Our working week was from Tuesday to Friday. Saturday through Sunday were ministry days and Monday was our day off. Staying by ourselves was something we all enjoyed. We cooked for ourselves which made a nice change.

It's me! Cooking!

We (by we I mean I) ate many, many cookies and drank dozens of liters of hot chocolate. Neither cookies nor hot chocolate are cheap and easily accessible on the ship so we made the most of it while we could.

About to pull a vine off the wall.

The work was hard but we enjoyed it. Every day we started at 9am and generally finished just after 5pm.

Sometimes after work we would enjoy a good water fight. Our neighbors though that myself and PJ, the other guy on the team were "naughty boys" for teaming up against the girls.

Our ministry days mostly consisted of church visits. Since we were working with Boys Brigade we visited their companies many times. Overall I enjoyed giving presentations to the groups although some went better than others.

Small group after a church visit.

On our days off we rested and twice hiked up past some waterfalls that were near the house. They were very beautiful.

One of the huge old trees right next to the house.

Several times we met with other Hong Kong teams to fellowship. It was great to be able to talk with other native English speakers apart from our small team.

If anyone knows what this strange little critter is please let me know. On our second hike we found it clinging to the bag. It looks bizarre.
